What Is OAuth?

OAuth is an authorization protocol that lets a third-party app access your account data (like top tracks) without seeing your password. Spotify receipt tools use OAuth to request scopes such as user-top-read.

OAuth requires you to log in and approve permissions in a popup. If the popup is blocked or the token expires, the receipt tool fails — which is why no-login manual mode exists as a fallback.

Receiptify uses Spotify OAuth. VibeSlip supports both OAuth connect and no-login manual mode.

EXAMPLE

Click “Log in with Spotify” → approve user-top-read → Receiptify pulls your top tracks. Or skip login entirely with VibeSlip manual mode.

FAQ

Is OAuth safe?

Yes — it uses read-only scopes and never shares your password.

Why does OAuth fail?

Expired tokens, blocked popups, or Heroku cold starts. Use manual mode as fallback.
